Runescape Starter Guide

Runescape Starter Guide

So you’ve created your runescape account and you don’t know what to do. You’ve completed the tutorial and you’re ready to take on the big wide world of runescape! Well there are a few pointers that will help you on your way. Before we get started I also wanted to add the runescape is a time consuming game, so if you’re not a patent person the maybe it’s not the game for you.

Choosing your type of Character

Well first of all you’re going to want to decide what kind of account you are going to be. There are four main types to choose from, these are
A warrior - warriors are players use swords and such to attack their opponent. They will often train there smithing skill up in order to create armour and weapons for themselves for metal that they may have mined our bought. They will mainly train up three skills; attack, strength and defence.
A mage - mages are players attack their opponent using magic from a distance. They will often train the rune crafting skill in order to be able to gain runes cheaply. They will mainly train up two skills magic and defence. They wear robes as their source of protection.
A Ranger - Rangers are players who attack their opponents from a distance using a bow and arrow. They will often train up their crafting level in order to create their own armour from animal skins. They will mainly train up two skills range and defence.
A Skiller – Skillers are usually non combat based players and train other skills like mining, fishing and woodcutting in order to gain a lot of money. These are often among the riches people in runescape and seem to take even more patience than the other three.
There are of course many other types of players who play the game such as pures (people who put all their time and effort into one particular skill) and overalls (players who train most of their skills and often have a good total level).
You should choose carefully though as there is something you need to know called the combat triangle. Calm down though its not as bad as it may seem. All it basically means is that a warrior is strong against a Ranger, a ranger is stronger against a mage and a mage is strong against a warrior.

Getting started…
Now you’ve decided what type of player you want to be its time to start you runescape adventure! You can choose to one of two things start levelling up or start getting some money or gp as it is known in runescape. If you are a Warrior I would recommend starting to level up your strength attack and defence as you can gain money by killing monsters around the land any other skill I would take up making money. Of course if you have chosen to be a skiller you will be doing both at the same time!

Making money
One thing about making money that I want to tell you know. It is time consuming. There is no guide that will be able to make you rich in ten minutes. The sooner you realise this, the better. At a low level there are a few options available to you.
One of these good ways is killing cows for their hides. This method is good because it allows you to gain levels and gain money. I would also recommend picking up the bones of the cows and burying the. This will level your prayer, which is a very good level to gain. This is a very good habit to get into as it saves a lot of money and time. Rangers may want to hang on to some of their hides so they can take them to a tannery and have them made into leather or hard leather. This, using the crafting skill, can be made into armour for rangers. This can also be done by other players as it can result in slightly more profit but will take up more time. You can find a tanner in varrock or Al Kharid. You will find cows north of the castle in lumbridge.  This is not really recommended for rangers as the skin of the cows allows them to have a relatively high defence level.

Whilst we are on the topic of killing things for money, Chickens. Chickens are a great way to earn moderately fast money by picking their feathers. You will gain 5, 10 or 15 feathers per chicken. This is also good because there is less risk involved for lower levels. You will be able to find chickens further north of the cows in lumbridge.

Using your skills like woodcutting or fishing are very good ways to gain good money. At a low level fishing at drayanor, found behind the castle in lumbridge castle, is very fast and is a good way to bank your fish to sell fast. For wood cutting go to just south of the Grande exchange, found in varrock, and cut down regular trees for a nice some.

Levelling

So you’ve decided you want to start getting your levels up. Well this is were you will really need your patience, so hold on tight and keep going.

As a ranger go and complete ‘the blood pact’ quest. This will reward you with Kayle’s sling, which has unlimited ammo; therefore saving you a fortune and a lot of time picking up you arrows. First go to chickens and kill them and bury their bones. Again I would recommend picking up their feathers for gp to pay for your arrows. This should level you quickly and safely. Once you have reached level 10 on chickens you should have a sufficient amount of feathers to be able to sell for arrows which will help reach the next milestone faster. ~Run to the G.E (Grand Exchange) and buy yourself an oak long bow and some iron/ bronze arrows. Iron will allow you to level faster as you hits will be higher. Now go back to just south of the cows in lumbridge and kill goblins. Again bury their bones to further increase your prayer level. This time it is not recommend picking up the coins they drop as it may prove too time consuming for the gp given but that can be a personal choice. If you want to keep you arrows for longer pick them up after you have finished killing the goblin. Note: you will not always gain all your arrows as sometimes they are broken.

As a warrior you should obtain a bronze sword at the bare minimum and basically follow the same pattern as the ranging section except cows can replace the goblins if you get bored of them and fancy doing something else.

Being a mage it is a little harder as you will most likely rune out of rune very fast. This is why it is recommended going to the fist of guthix minigame. The fist of guthix minigame provides you with a large amount of runes. Don’t expect to win though as you area very low level, but don’t let this get you down. This method is very good for xp (experience) and allows you to gain tokens which can be traded for rewards!

Good Luck
That is about all you need to know about getting started in runescape. If you have and questions trying reading some of my advanced guides which will go into each skill in much more detail. Good luck and keep going. Remember patience is key.
